Ouray Winter – 40×30 Oil. Winter makes its first advance on the deep Ouray valley as witnessed from my Twin Peaks perch. The cold cloudless sky breaks for the sun, holding off the next winter storm, while town shrugs off the latest snow fall. The cold air stings my nose. I contemplate the Million Dollar Highway’s improbably route out of the valley and south through the Uncompahgre Gorge. The comforting silence of high altitude on a still day is eventually interrupted by the need to keep moving to stay warm.
